Consider supporting the “Jill & Jam” preschool healthy habits CD “Goin’ On a Journey: Songs for Every Body” for Best Children’s Album for the 2011 Grammy Award Nomination. Because this record was released on our independent record label, it is up against the giants so we need your support!

Beware, there are several other health-themed records in our category! Following the momentum of Golfview‘s Gold with Distinction which culminated with 22 live Jump with Jill performances and the viral video “Going Gold” on YouTube, D300 has applied for the HealthierUS School Challenge for all its elementary schools. To celebrate and assist other schools to learn from their efforts, D300 and The Rockstar Nutritionist are releasing a new video that describes how all of D300’s elementary schools took The Challenge! The video – “The Jill Jayne Chronicles: Uncovering the Case of the HealthierUS School Challenge” – stars many of D300’s own students and staff and is the second in a series of three to document their commitment to improving the wellness standards of its students. D300 now hopes to add another 16 schools to their USDA award status tally and to join the few existing other schools in the nation and the 14 other schools recognized in all of Illinois.

Golfview Elementary School in Community School District 300 is officially “Gold with Distinction.” In taking the Healthier US School Challenge, Golfview improved their school lunch menus, provided 90 minutes of physical education year round for all students, and included nutrition education as part of their curriculum. Golfview will be honored by the United States Department of Agriculture as the first non-chartered school in Illinois, and among the first schools in the entire United States, to earn this honor.

When I heard this news, I took to the streets of New York City and started singing… and dancing… to tell everyone what an amazingly healthy school Golfview is! And we filmed it! It’s an original song and music video written just for D300 in celebration of their challenge conquered. The video also features students from Golfview Elementary, Principal Trish Whitecotton, PE Teacher Lianne Tompkins, and food service employees from Aramark. The video debuts at the Golfview award ceremony on February 4th.

The Gold with Distinction award is endorsed by First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign to reduce childhood obesity.  The February 4th ceremony at Golfview is well timed to the first anniversary of the national Let’s Move! campaign launch. This video is also a sneak peak for the weeks to follow for The Rockstar Nutritonist. The rock ‘n roll nutrition show Jump with Jill show will be coming to Carpentersville, IL for 22 performances from Feb 7 to Feb 18th. For a schedule and more details, please contact D300 Communication Services at 847.551.8344.

Golfview Elementary School will be honored Feb. 4 as the first non-chartered school in Illinois, and among the first schools in the entire United States, to earn a “Gold of Distinction” award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for its nutrition gains.

Golfview and District 300 administration have led the charge for the state’s 6th largest school district to succeed in the USDA’s Healthier U.S. School Challenge.  The Healthier U.S. School Challenge aims to improve the nutritional components of school lunch menus, improve nutrition education, and increase exercise among students. The Gold of Distinction award is endorsed by First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign to reduce childhood obesity.  The ceremony is well timed to the Feb. 9, 2011, first anniversary of the national Let’s Move! campaign.  D300 leaders have invited Mrs. Obama to personally encourage other local schools to take the Challenge, and we look forward to her reply.

This just in! An independent research study shows that Jump with Jill works!
Research on Jump with Jill demonstrates kids are tuned in to the Rockstar Nutritionist. Not only does Jump with Jill get kids rockin’ and learnin’, the messages translate into measurable behavioral improvements. These changes include an increase in physical activity, drinking more water and drinking less soda. Even seven months after seeing the show, kids could still recall the messages, particularly about the importance of physical activity. Not bad when you consider how easily kids forget their homework and that Jill’s one time intervention is competing with the well-funded, unhealthy competition kids see daily in advertisements.
Study Details

In support of America on the Move, Fort Wayne Cardiology in Indiana conducted an independent evaluation of Jump with Jill in the fall of 2009. Researchers determined the show had a meaningful impact on 3rd, 4th and 5th graders’ behavior with regard to health and fitness. Seven weeks after watching Jump with Jill, 153 students completed a questionnaire examining their responses to the performance.
